Descrizione
The TAZEBAO project aims to develop and prototype an open-source digital ecosystem for the documentation, valorisation, and narration of the heritage of the University of Turin Museum System. The framework is designed to be reconfigurable, scalable, and reusable, with the goal of supporting curators in the collaborative management of heterogeneous data and in the creation of new ways to access and interpret cultural heritage.
The project focused on three collections: Art Brut artworks, the posters depicting tattooed inmates from the Lombroso Museum, and the pre-Columbian cotton cemí preserved at MAET. Through advanced digitisation processes (photogrammetry, 3D scanning, multispectral imaging), these objects have been transformed into accessible and explorable digital resources, making even non-displayed collections available to the public.
The system integrates a centralised semantic repository and a set of interactive interfaces that enable multidimensional exploration of content and the creation of personalised narrative paths. Key outputs include: an interactive station for the 3D exploration of inmates’ tattoos, an immersive virtual reality installation for the Digital Cemí, and a web platform for accessing and narrating the Art Brut collections.
The project addresses challenges related to the integration of heterogeneous datasets, the management of sensitive content, and long-term technical sustainability, while fostering strong interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, curators, and technology partners.
TAZEBAO enhances accessibility and inclusivity in cultural heritage, broadening audiences and introducing new hybrid modes of engagement. The developed framework represents a replicable model for other museum contexts, supporting dissemination, research, and innovation in the field of digital cultural heritage.
