The PNRR's great opportunities lead to a rethinking of TCH valorisation policies and, more generally, of research in our country, leading to a substantial revision of public intervention that favours integration and coordination as tools to improve the level of efficiency and effectiveness of the research system.
Given the common objective of the project to provide a multidisciplinary view on TCH, while maintaining the integrity of the data and their usefulness within the individual disciplines, it was essential to carry out a survey of the existing TCH databases, and then to establish an innovative operational protocol based on the geo-referencing of the heterogeneous data acquired, with a view to harmonisation between the different disciplines. The theme of georeferencing constitutes the element that unites all the pilot cases selected by the various Spoke partners.
Spoke 8 aims at the creation of a digital infrastructure, characterised by a vertical articulation of activities, common to the various disciplines involved, with some specific horizontal branches, with the objective of creating a single critical mass of data, from which a shared operational protocol emerges. Through a pathway of knowledge of these data, it is necessary to understand their inclusion in a structured system, according to a specific taxonomy, through the integration with diagnostic and investigation documentation activities.
In the framework of WP1 activities, the Spoke Leader UNIRM1, in collaboration with the Partners (UNIBA, UNINA, UNIVE, UNIRM3, CNRS and SNS) and interacting with the activities of Spokes 3, 5 and 7, carried out the research through the following activities 1) Preliminary assessment of the most suitable TCH examples for the improvement of digital infrastructures/inventories and analysis of international metadata formats (CNR); drafting of the draft deliverable on guidelines for the acquisition, validation and actualization of TCH legacy data (CNR); identification of themes/subjects of reference images topic modelling capable of automatically identifying themes within textual sources. 2) Initiation of work on the search for ‘good practices’ for the holistic management and enhancement of archaeological sites (UNIFI). 3) Development of a useful procedure for the reorganisation, arrangement and study of museum collections (UNIBA). 4) Development of a useful procedure for the reorganisation, arrangement and study of archive data (UNIVE). 5) Identification of acquisition, classification and georeferencing procedures capable of managing and integrating types of data from different information sources and adoptable by different disciplines (UNIRM1); identification of best practices of data capturing for TCH (UNIRM1);
"In the framework of WP2 activities, the Spoke Leader UNIRM1, working with the Partners (UNIBA, UNINA, UNIVE, UNIRM3, CNRS and SNS) and interacting with the activities of Spokes 1, 3 and 4, conducted research activities aimed at analysing the elements belonging to the TCH. This objective, transversally declined with respect to the scale, nature and consistency of the objects of study (territories, urban contexts, sites, monuments and groups of artefacts), was pursued using the data/information and applying the procedures and methods of analysis stated in WP1. As part of these activities, the work of analysing and studying pilot cases was initiated. These were selected on the basis of the following criteria: a) the possibility of locating objects, artefact contexts, buildings, monumental complexes, urban areas, suburban settlements on georeferenced maps, restoring their planimetric characteristics and the various phases of transformation over time; b) possibility of carrying out analyses in a multi-scalar perspective: from the territory to the single object; c) articulation and heterogeneity of the available data dossier. The selected pilot cases include territorial analyses on a regional scale (diachronic analysis, between prehistory and the early Middle Ages, of the territorial landscapes of northern Lazio - UNIRM1; analysis of the archaeological contexts of the internal areas of Tuscany - UNIFI); urban (Archaeological map of Centuripe and necropolis of Poggio Montano and Norchia - CNR; Celio area - CoopCulture; Torre del Fiscale area - UNIRM1); monumental (Basilica Iulia of the Roman Forum - CNR; San Lorenzo in Miranda; Basilica of Aachen - UNIRM1). Single classes of artefacts were also analysed (coroplastics from the deposit of Piazza S. Francesco in Catania - CNR; furnishings of medieval churches in Venice - UNIVE; architectural elements in marble reused in Venice - UNIVE); archive repertories (historical archive of Venice in the years 1330-1370 - UNIVE); image and toponym repertories (mapping of the journal Archaeology and Calculator - CNR)."
In the framework of the WP3 activities, the Spoke Leader UNIRM1, in collaboration with the Partners (UNIBA, UNINA, UNIVE, UNIRM3, CNRS and SNS) and interacting with the activities of Spokes 1, 6-7 and 9, carried out activities related to: the elaboration of the Guidelines for the regeneration of the archaeological sites of the internal areas of Tuscany (UNIFI): the collection of data for the implementation of the Historical-Archaeological Atlas of Contemporary Conflicts in Apulia (UNIBA).
In the framework of WP4 activities, the Spoke Leader UNIRM3, working together with the Partners (UNIRM1, UNIVE, UNIRM3, CoopCulture) and interacting with the activities of Spokes 3 and 9, carried out the Sustainable business models for Tangible Cultural Heritage and launched the project ‘Tangible Cultural Heritage in Rome: forms and places of meeting and representation’. In the same framework, activities were carried out to study metrics for the identification of impact indicators, analysing those formulated within the European project Sophia.
In the framework of the WP5 activities, the Spoke Leader UNIRM1, in collaboration with the Partners (UNIBA, UNINA, UNIVE, UNIRM3, CoopCulture, SNS) and interacting with the activities of Spokes 3 and 9, carried out the dissemination and publication activities of the scientific results. In particular, seminar, conference and publicity dissemination activities aimed at enhancing the TCH's value and knowledge were carried out by all the research units.
