Project CHANGES, within the PNRR intervention framework, aims to create an international reference centre for training, research and technology transfer in the field of culture and cultural heritage. The aim is to enhance our country's cultural heritage, promoting new sustainable approaches for its protection and use, creating stable partnerships between research and business and offering employment opportunities in the sector. Through structural interventions, CHANGES has the ambition to see an increase in the number of researchers and graduates in areas of cultural interest, by strengthening research and technology transfer laboratories between universities and enterprises. Furthermore, the project aims at revitalising the economy and territorial development of central and southern Italy in the cultural sector after the pandemic crisis.
CHANGES is in line with the priorities of the National Research Plan 2021-2027, promoting interdisciplinary research and the valorisation of cultural heritage through the use of digital technologies. With innovative approaches, CHANGES aims to protect, conserve and enhance cultural heritage while reducing social and economic inequalities. Through the strategic application of digital technologies, CHANGES aims to make cultural heritage accessible to a wide public by promoting the use of advanced digital imaging techniques and developing innovative IT tools for the conservation and analysis of cultural heritage. Furthermore, the project aims to promote new forms of sustainable tourism based on the respect and enhancement of cultural heritage, actively involving local communities and institutions.

Spokes
The organisational structure of project CHANGES is inspired by the ‘bicycle wheel’ concept, known as ‘hub and spoke’
In this context, the CHANGES Foundation serves as the Hub, the vital centre of the project, while the thematic Spokes represent the wheel’s spokes. Each Spoke plays a key role in contributing to the strength and stability of the entire system. The project CHANGES is organised into 9 thematic Spokes, conceived as complementary areas fundamental to forming a vast ecosystem of interdisciplinary expertise in the humanities, technology and culture.
These Spokes aim to support the protection, valorisation and sustainable transformation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, addressing challenges such as digital preservation, the creation of creative ecosystems, the promotion of sustainable tourism and the management of natural and man-made risks to cultural heritage.
